Swim Updates April 2020
22 Apr 2020 by Julie Thorp
We hope everyone is staying sane and safe during this uncertain time.
We wanted to give an update on swim.
Banquet- We want to celebrate our season with our annual end-of-season banquet, however, it’s not possible at this time. We will have to be creative
and patient and reschedule the banquet when it’s responsible and safe to do so.
Summer Clinic-
This is still up in the air, but it will be determined by the YMCA in conjunction with the decision of the coaches. If we do have clinic, it’ll be July and of course it’s voluntary. I won’t be there as Wyatt Thorp is due July 11, but I will updated and will be providing stroke drills.
Lastly, we wanted to again reiterate how thankful we are for such a great season. There are so many moving parts with a swim league not being ran by our school district and we believe it went exceptionally well.
We also learned a lot about scheduling, carpooling, and communication. We are far from being a perfect program, so thank you for your grace and patience each year as we try to learn from our mistakes, failures, and successes.
At the end of the day we just want a program which will offer lessons beyond the pool deck…and we continue to learn them as well!
News-
Unbeknownst to me, the other coaches in our division nominated me to be Boys Coach of the Year for the entire middle Tennessee high school swim league. I had no idea until a fellow coach told me they announced that I won at the MTHSSA banquet.
I was given this award because of my swimmers- how they are full of spirit. respect, and consistent determination. I share this award with my fellow coaches Watson and Loftis- and most importantly our kids! It’s a big award for our little team as there are more than 100 boys teams we stood apart from!!
Please don’t hesitate to contact either Watson or myself.
